SIGN UP FOR TEE TIMES

You may sign up on our GG portal for tee times.  The calendar in GG shows the dates when tee sheets will open and close. Make every effort to sign up at least 8 days prior to the date of play.

Tee sheets OPEN on the Thursday night FOUR weeks prior to each Sweeps game at 7:00 PM.  Tee sheets close on the Tuesday night prior to the game at 6:00 PM.

If you need to change or cancel a tee time, you should be able to do that by using the same GG link that was used to sign up originally.  Look for the green buttons to Change or Cancel.

After the tee sheets close, if you need to cancel, text Kay McElrath or Patti McCormick. We will handle the communications with the Pro Shop.

LIFT CLEAN & PLACE IS NOT IN FORCE

RULES FOR LIFT, CLEAN AND PLACE

  • When Lift, Clean and Place is in force as a Local Rule, it will be announced on this site.  Lift, Clean, and Place applies to the General Area of the course only.  The General Area includes the fairways and rough, but not bunkers or penalty areas.    In general, the relief must be within one club length.  There are a few spots on the course (e.g. on #5 on the left side of the fairway close to the cart path turn) where there are deep ruts or other abnormal course conditions where you may need to go beyond one club length.  If your playing partners agree that closer relief is not possible, you are allowed to go to the first point of available relief.

  • On the putting greens, if your ball is located on a bare patch or a bare patch lies between your ball and the hole, you may place your ball at the nearest point of relief, not closer to the hole.

  • You may move your ball from a bare area of the fairway (actually bare, not just short grass) to the nearest point of relief not closer to the hole.

  • For bunkers, if your ball is in a bunker where no rake is present and your ball is in a footprint or divot in the sand, you may move the ball to the nearest point of relief within the bunker and not closer to the pin without penalty.  If there is a rake near the bunker, play the ball as it lies.  PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR FELLOW GOLFERS AND ALWAYS RAKE.

  • With these exceptions, please observe the normal USGA rules and the local rules adopted by the course (on scorecards).

BALBOA PARK PACE OF PLAY POLICY

                 is as follows:

For the enjoyment of all the golfers on the course today, we ask that you do your part by keeping up with the group in front of you.  If we see that you have fallen behind, we may use the following actions:

  *  Your Group may be instructed to pick  up their balls and move ahead on the course to close the gap.

  *  Your Group may be asked to allow other groups behind you to play through.

A GROUP'S PACE IS DETERMINED BY THEIR POSITION  RELATIVE TO THE GROUP IN FRONT OF THEM.

Myth Busters

Hello BPWGC Members!  My name is Myrna Mulligan and I've asked your President for a bit of space this month on your website.  You see, my passion is setting the record straight and there's a couple of myths that keep popping up in your group and I'm going to BUST THOSE MYTHS!

MYTH #1:  DIVOTS ARE "ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS".  Sorry sweeties, but no they are not considered Abnormal Course Conditions. Unless Lift, Clean and Place is in force (it is NOT currently), you gotta take the hand you are dealt and hit the shot right where the ball came to rest, including in a divot. (This myth falls under the General Rule of "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.)

MYTH #2:  IF YOUR BALL GOES INTO THE CANYON ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE #16 FAIRWAY, YOU TAKE A PENALTY AND GET THREE, NOT THE USUAL TWO, CLUB LENGTHS TO DROP YOUR BALL.  This myth pops up every once in a while.  It ain't true.  You apply the usual rules if your ball goes into the Red Penalty area.

Hit em long & straight,

Myrna Mulligan

COMING EVENTS

TO SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THE EVENTS BELOW, USE THE LINK ABOVE TO ACCESS THE SIGN IN FOR OUR GOLF GENIUS PORTAL.

For more info on using Golf Genius, select the "Guides to Using Golf Genius" menu option on our GG Portal.

Always report gross scores for each hole in GG, or a X for an incomplete hole.  A hole not played must be left blank.

For those walking the course, please avoid taking carts onto tees or into the area within 5 yards of the green.  Particularly with this year's heavy rains, even our carts can leave tracks on these sensitive areas.  The BPGC management appreciates your cooperation.  -- Thank you.

WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING SOON?  CHECK OUT THE CALENDAR LINK ABOVE.

THE MOSTLY SUNNY WEATHER IS BACK WITH US AND THE COURSE IS FINALLY DRYING OUT.   THE TEMPORARY LIFT CLEAN AND PLACE RULES AND SPECIAL BUNKER RELIEF ARE NO LONGER IN FORCE.  PLAY IT AS IT LIES.

CANCELLATIONS

As a club, we have to release any unused tee times to the course management eight days prior to our game day.  That's so the course can make those unused tee times available to the general public.  And, if we are using any more than the minimum number (e.g. 35 players may be fit into a minimum of 9 tee times), we have to move people around to reduce the tee times to a minimum.

If you need to cancel a tee time after the tee sheets have closed for that date, please send a TEXT MESSAGE to Kay McElrath at 619-339-8524 to have your name removed from the tee sheets.  Please do so as soon as possible.

BALBOA WOMEN ARE THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY CHAMPIONS 2021 & 2022!

Proving that 2021 was no fluke, the Balboa Park Women's Golf Club TEAM were not about to give up that trophy!  For the SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, our team came out on top of the SDCWGA Net competition for the entire county.

MULTI-CLUB REBATES FROM SCGA

If you belong to more than one golf club, you may be entitled to a refund of excess SCGA dues.  For more information or to claim your refund, visit:

GOLF GENIUS REMINDERS

Riding / Walking. - You can now see whether your playing partners are planning to ride or walk.  On the GG Portal > Tee Times, you'll see this designation.  You won't find it when you are signing up, so check the current tee sheet first, then to to Tee Time Sign-Up.

The reason for adding this information to the tee sheet is that it is useful to members who would like to sign up for a group where they have a good chance of sharing a cart rather than pay $25 (City) as a single rider.

Chip-ins.  - Just a reminder that one member from each group needs to email Anne Higgins when you finish to let her know if anyone in your group had a chip-in and if so, who and what hole.  Those members who had chip-ins will be included in the Sweeps results on the GG Portal.

Closest to the Pin - Because there is no way for golfers to directly enter CTP into GG, we need to return the process that we used prior to December 31.  First group places the markers at the edge of the greens or at the location of the closest ball putting their name on the marker.  If a subsequent golfer has a ball closer to the pin, move the marker and add the name to the marker.  The final foursome picks up the markers when they leave the greens.  One member of the last group sends a photo of each marker to Anne Higgins.

Keeping It Together

***The message below was added in late August to this page.  Since that time, the tee sheets have gotten noticeably more compact.  THANK YOU and keep up the good work!

When you sign up, if you are a single or twosome, please add your name(s) where you can fill out a foursome even if there is another tee time with no one signed up.  Not only is this a great way to meet other members, but it makes it much less likely that you will be affected when we go to consolidate the tee times for the course. Thanks!

IF YOU ARE NEW TO OUR CLUB, WELCOME!  If you have questions, send them to me at bpwgc.kay@gmail.com or ask a member from your foursome for guidance.  We are a friendly bunch, and we know that when you’re new to the club, it is natural to have questions, so don’t be afraid to ask!

SUGGESTIONS?  Let me hear them!

Proud to serve the members of BPWGC,

Kay McElrath
